Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the team environment by working well with others in and outside of the department. Support the quality department throughout the Mattoon facility.
  • Adhere to safe working practices at all times. Comply with basic plant safety, GMP, and applicable plant rules and procedures at all times.  Note:  this position requires working with chemicals.
  • Coordinate projects as assigned under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager, including, but are not limited to, program design, implementation and monitoring of local and corporate quality programs, review of practices and documentation, trend analysis, presentation of findings, and training of the general workforce in quality related procedures and requirements.
  • Fully implement and maintain SQF 2000 Certified System within area of responsibility.
  • Analyze the production environment, ingredients, in-process product, and finished products:
    • Conduct microbial analysis including preparation of solutions, sample collection, culturing, reading and evaluation of results, tracking results, and reporting adverse trends.
    • Conduct analytical evaluations including, but not limited to, yeast viability, pH, titratable acidity, moisture, protein content, farinograph, amylograph, ash, and water activity.
    • Conduct organoleptic (taste, odor, mouth feel) and physical (size, dimensions, appearance) evaluations.
  • Analyze for completeness and accuracy daily production documentation, including batch sheets, Packaging Technician records, allergen records, and HACCP records.
  • Conduct audits to verify the implementation and effectiveness of programs such as GMP, Pest control, Glass Control, Sanitation, and Formula control/ compliance.
  • Maintain a ‘specialty’ support service as assigned such as pest control, environmental evaluation, and/or statistical based analysis of data.
  • Participate in training programs as assigned. Some programs involve travel with overnight stays.
  • Remain current on all procedures and procedural changes that are applicable to the position.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, continued:

  • Immediately report food safety and food quality issues to QA Manager, or other member(s) of management with authority to act upon them.
  • Collate and report production history to the accounting and purchasing functions to assist in maintaining inventory of raw materials.
  • Maintain production batch sheets and cards; make necessary revisions; maintain the system of issue/ return accountability; file the sheets with other production history records.
  • Perform other duties incidental to the position as assigned by the QA Manager.
